Nearly identical in appearance to our Rush House Original, we consider this rug its "twin." This product is made from handpicked strands of carefully dried water hyacinth woven into one-foot squares and sewn together by hand. Slightly thicker than our Rush House Original, the Monterey rug will not shed with time.
We offer 6 sizes, which can be easily joined to create a larger rug with our Twine & Needle Sew Kit. Our Set of 12 Squares allows further size alteration by the square-foot.
As simply as squares can be added, they may also be taken away. To make any rug smaller, snip and remove squares to reduce square footage— or replace them altogether should an unwelcome stain occur. With minimal effort, any rug shape or size is possible, including cut-outs around fireplace hearths, bookcases, or built-ins.
Here's how it works!
- ADD SQUARES
Use our package of individual squares and twine & needle sew kit to add additional squares to your rug to increase the width or length. You can also use the twine & needle sew kit to attach to whole rugs together and create an extra large area rug.
- REMOVE SQUARES
Simply use scissors to cut the twine binding the woven squares until you've created the rug size you need. Save excess squares to use as replacement squares or to use as a runner or door mat.
MORE INFORMATION:
* This product is one-of-a-kind. Slight variations in color, weave, and size may occur. Woven by hand from organic corn husk, this product is imperfect by nature. Its artisan quality adds unmatched character that you won't find in a machine made rug.
Care Instructions:
When you receive your rug and carefully unroll it, you may notice waves or creases may have formed on the surface. Don't panic! These waves are a result of the stress of rolling and shipping the product. Lay the rug completely flat and as the rug settles, the waves will soften and disappear within 2-3 days. With proper maintenance and care, your seagrass rug will remain beautiful for years. A quality rug pad will extend the life of your rug, keep it in place, and allow breathability. We recommend this one. Our rugs are handmade and fibers may shed over time. It is ok to vacuum this rug. IIn the event of a spill, use a dry cloth and firmly blot the rug dry (do not rub the liquid). If needed, follow up with a wet rag and blot the rug dry again. For stains, order replacement squares and a sew kit and replace the affected area.
