Rare swedish grace period brass and oakwood table lamp by böhlmarks, late 1920´s. The lamp is in very nice original condition with minor wear to the metal and wood. The lamp measures 36 cm in height and the diameter of the shade is 30 cm, the diameter of the base is 12. Arvid böhlmarks lampfabrik ab as the written full name is, was founded in 1872 in stockholm, sweden. The production was in the beginning kerosene lamps as the first producer in sweden, they then started making kerosene stoves, and also in the early 1900´s became famous as the high end producer of electrical lamps of all sorts. In 1920- late 1940´s they also produced chrome steel furniture in the present funcionalistic / bauhaus style. Bo notini, harald notini, gunnar asplund, alice nordin, alf wallander and jerk werkmäster was the top designers working for böhlmarks at that period of time. Böhlmarks also acquired pukebergs glassfactory in 1894. That was where most of all the beautiful glass shades were produced. Pukeberg was and became one of the biggest producers of glass for böhlmarks and other high end lamps, in sweden. Swedish grace was a brief yet substantial moment that emerged in the 1920’s and came to represent a brilliant mix of classicism and architectural details. Architecture, interior design, and crafts were defined by simplified shapes and purity of composition -- a huge step away from nationalism and jugendstil. A young and talented generation of architects and designers looked back to classicism and their own nordic traditions, and created an incredibly modern vernacular style characterized by timeless proportions, luxuriously superb handcraft, and playful details. Swedish grace had multi-layered objectives; while maintaining a social agenda, it appealed to the cultural and economic elite of the day through the production of high quality design. Eu standard.
