Paul McCobb (1917-1969) for Calvin 4 drawer walnut and aluminum chest from The Linear Group. Clean lines! Walnut chest with a strip of aluminum down each side. Rectangular legs, brushed nickel original drawer pulls. Perfect for a small space. Very good condition. Dealer 18.

*Paul McCobb was a modern furniture and industrial designer. He was completely self-taught with regards to design and his furniture became known for its functionality and approachability. Perspective and scale became trademarks for McCobb, along with thin lines, simplicity of form and a distinct lightness. He was a realist and a perfectionist and his design pieces are a clear reflection of his personality. McCobb died in 1969 at the age of 52.
*Calvin Furniture Company was a furniture manufacturer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was founded in 1953 by William Calvin and produced a variety of mid century modern furniture. The company is best known for its collaboration with designer Paul McCobb who created the Irwin Collection for Calvin in 1957. The Irwin Collection is a set of 12 pieces of furniture that are characterized by their clean lines, simple forms, and use of natural materials. The collection was a commercial success and helped to establish Calvin Furniture as a leading manufacturer of mid century modern furniture. Calvin Furniture continued to produce furniture until the early 1970s, when it went out of business.
