Circa Late 19th … more This Really is a Great Looking Antique American Country Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. Unusual 3 Gallon Size. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Rendered in a Classic "Beehive" Form - Shape. The Salt Glaze Exterior has a Beautiful Large Cobalt Blue Hand Decorated Flower Sprig Design on the Front. It is Embossed with the Well Documented Makers Name of FRANK B. NORTON in WORCESTER MASSACHUSETTS. It is Also Embossed Number 3 Denoting its Three Gallon Storage Capicty. These type of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store a Variety of Liquids - Spirits - Liquor - Ciders - Vinegar - Spring Water Etc. It is in Very Good - Strong - Sound - all Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. It has No Cracks - No Chips - No Repairs. Imperfection Noted - The Blue Decoration Has Some Glaze Loss Spots. These Being a Result of and Referred to as "Kiln Burns" - Bubbles in the Blue Slip Glaze That Originally Occurred in the Kiln - Firing Process. These Types of Imperfections are Actually Quite Common Since These Pieces were Produced and Fired in Very Large Kilns in Batches with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time.
