Standing on lotus plinth with the "no fear" abhaya mudra, the broad-faced figure is rendered with a serene, smiling expression by downcast eyes beneath high arched brows above slightly opened lips, flanked by long pendulous ear lobes decorated with large hoop earrings. Buddha wears an elaborate crown and a long robe that drapes in u-shaped folds, overlapped at the chest, covering the entire upper torso before gracefully falling around the arms, exposing hands, thighs and feet. The abhaya mudra symbolizes dispelling of fear. Buddha's warm smile conveys reassurance and protection. See less
