This is a wall hung carved and polychrome painted wall mask in the form of a cherub set in the middle of her magnificent scrolled wings, which are gilded. This is an 18th century Italian hand carving in soft wood The subject’s face is plump, soft and well rounded, showing rose tinted cheeks and red lips, the eyes are clear and her face is surrounded with curls of hair. There is some paint loss and a little chipping as to be expected of a piece from the 18th century, there is a some of old (historic) woodworm and some old repairs, all acceptable in a piece of this age. This is a wonderful and very rare piece, it is 25” high, 27” across and about 15” deep. See less
