Most elegant art deco figurine of the dancer 'la jana' manufactory: goldscheider vienna / austria dating: circa 1933 technique: handcrafted ceramics, finest hand painting, glossy finish designer: josef lorenzl (1892-1950) was one of the most important designers having been active for goldscheider manufactory in the period of 1920-1940. He created the model 6753 circa 1933. Specifications: the dancer is wearing a crop top without sleeves and a long, wide skirt with green and black flowers on a gray-brown background. The upper body is slightly bent back. The young woman grabs the skirt at the bottom with her left arm stretched back and looks to the right. In her right hand she holds a tambourine, which is supported on her hip. Beautiful facial features, the dancer's hair style is typical of the 1920s-1930s. The figure is based on an elliptical, black flat base. This figure is called 'la jana' in relation to henriette margarethe hiebel-niederauer (1905-1940), an austrian-german dancer and actress. Size: height 14.56 inches / 37.0 cm marks: model number 6753 / 32 / 14 'made in austria' / painter's and former's signs existing 'lorenzl' artist's signature bibliography: dechant / goldscheider: goldscheider history of the company and catalogue of works, stuttgart (germany), 2007, page 439, number 6753.
