A vintage folk art watermelon which has been carved from wood and hand painted. This piece is attributed to master New Mexican carving artist Felip Archuleta, who carved animals, watermelons and whirly gigs throughout his lifetime, and passed this art form down to his son. Felipe's works are in collections throughout the world. His pieces were usually marked in pencil and it is not uncommon for them to not have a signature due to age.
