This is an amazing set of vintage barware consisting of 6 highball / Tom Collins / Tumbler glasses and one large glass cocktail pitcher. All items are made and signed by Gregory Duncan….
This pattern was Gregory Duncan’s “Purple Thistle” pattern, the most popular and high-valued pattern from the glassware designer. Dated back to the mid-late 1950s, Gregory Duncan was ahead of the trend, as 22-karat application on glassware hit its stride in the 1960s and carried through the 70s.
The decorations on these glasses may be considered similar to their MCM competition in regard to style and color, but in reality, this glassware set was crafted with a more durable, longer lasting application of 22k gold and enamel compared to many others of it time. The 22-karat gold and purple enamel applied to this set is very thick and tactile compared to similar glassware of the same age and period. The application used by Gregory Duncan has proved to be a prominent one, as the gold and purple is in excellent shape with no signs of wear, scratching, chipping, tarnishing, or fading! Incredible! In fact, the Gregory Duncan signature is the only thing on the glassware that shows any sign of fading, and its the only part of the glassware decoration that was not applied in the raised, thick, enamel and is simply a flush application with the side of the glass. Clearly, the raised decoration method has substantial durability to age, wear and use! Not to say that all of the signatures have worn; only 1 of the 7b pieces included in the set is missing the signature. Three of the glasses have a worn signature and the remaining four pieces have pristine signatures (see pictures for more detail).
The glasses have a sightly fluted design, classic of a highball glass, where it appears almost to have straight-up sides but in reality are so very slightly angled. The pitcher has the same general shape, but because they are handblown, the picture has a lovely, fluid spout at the top. In addition, the handle has a gorgeous detail of only being connected to the body of the pitcher on the bottom end; the top of the handle curls around and appears to be connected at the top as well, but upon close inspection it is just close to the main picture body, but does not actually connect. This is a gorgeous, subtle detail that just further emphasizes the hand-crafted charm of MCM glassware. See pictures for details.

**HANDWASH ONLY** Due to the age and antique make of these items, I recommend using only a soft cloth, mild dish detergent and warm water when washing this item. Be gentle when washing and check first on a small inconspicuous area that using your cleaning tool of choice will not weather the glasses or their decoration any more than may already be. Remember, vintage and authentic means its old and needs gentle care to maintain its beauty!!

The only sign of wear is on the actual Gregory Duncan signature on the bottom of each glass. 3 of the glasses show either wear or no signature at all, while the remaining 3 glasses and pitcher have pristine signatures. The thick, solid sections of 22k gold on the pitcher have some signs of cracking, due to application of large, solid sections of the gold, raised enamel, which is consistent with the age and vintage of the set. The gold on the highball glasses does not show the same signs of cracking. See all pictures for close up details. All items are pre-owned unless otherwise stated in the item description.
