Antique Japanese maru obi with luxurious traditional motifs.
It is decorated with traditional and lucky charm patterns, cranes, pines and flowers.
Dated early 20th century.
100% hand-woven pure silk.
It measures approximately width 32( 12 5/8” ), Length 402cm ( 158”).
Maru obi is most formal, and was popular in the early 1900s. It is highest rank of all obi. It is made from one strip of fabric in two, so the front and back are the same. It is quite heavy.
Today we have found multiple ways to display these luxurious textiles, it can be hung over a rod for a wall decoration or use it as a fabulous table runner.
