This pendulum has a half-round … Read more Beautiful Louis XVI clock in white marble and gilded bronze of the Parisian house Planchon.
This pendulum has a half-round base embellished with a garland of beads and a bronze garnish with foliage. This rests on four small chiseled bronze feet forming domes.
Four cylindrical columns in white marble, embellished with colerets in the lower part, support another base in half-round, decorated with garlands of flowers and ribbons, in shaped bronze. An openwork gallery follows the curve of this marble element and four Louis XVI pine cones completes this decorative set.
The dial is signed "Planchon in Paris" and is surrounded by ribbon and foliage.
The pendulum is in a radiant sun -shaped, accompanied by a mask.
Above the dial, a beautiful urn decorated with garland and topped with a bronze sheet and fruit completes this clock in perfect condition.
Refined, this pendulum delights with its finesse and ornaments.


Mathieu Planchon (1842-1921) is a watchmaking watchmaker, historian and theorist. He moved to Paris, at the Palais-Royal, in the 1870s. He also worked with Jean E. Robert-Houdin, a famous watchmaker and manufacturer of automata before becoming a famous illusionist. He studies the systems of "mysterious pendulums" and his work will be followed by Maurice Couet which will ensure the creation of these famous mysterious clocks for the famous Joailler Cartier. Planchon will also reconstruct the clock that Viollet-le-Duc gave as well as the monumental clock of Jean Fusoris for the cathedral of Bourges in his dictionary of furniture.
