Published by The Highland Press, Boerne Texas, 1951, 1st edition. Artwork by Emilie Toepperwein. Early children's story set in Fredericksburg, Texas, at Easter time. "The story goes that in the very early days a family of pioneer children were frightened on Easter Eve by seeing Indian campfires on the hills. Their mother quieted them. Oh, no! she said, not Indian fires, but rabbit fires burned there outside the town. The Easter Rabbit was coloring his eggs, she said, with kettles of flower-dye boiling above the flames they saw." From that day forward, there have been fires lighting the town of Fredericksburg on Easter Eve. Red cloth binding, illustrated dust jacket, various colored paper pages, shelf wear, edge tears to dust jacket. less
