A majestic light gray limestone Triton mask spout, inspired by the classic representation of the Greek myth, hand carved by contemporary sculptor Andrea Distefano. The Triton was often chosen by many sculptors as an all-time favourite subject during the baroque period for several Italian fountains and sculptural compositions.
He was the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a Nereid. Triton was a divinity with a shell horn, which essentially served two purposes: firstly to warn that his father, king of the sea, was about to arrive, and secondly to appease the violent storms, but there exists several other myths about this fantastical creature. The fascination due to the myth has meant that Triton became the apotheosis par excellence of any Italian baroque fountain. The fountain mask can be kept as independent or assembled into a major basin. less
