The wooden elements are free of any significant surface marks, but there does appear to have been repairs made to one small arch support element under the main desktop (see detailed photo). The green leather writing surface does exhibit wear and minor staining consistent with its age. Seller's Note: With all of out inventory, we do our best to research and identify the items for authenticity, and to carefully examine and report any flaws, or issues with each piece we offer for sale. With very few exceptions, the items we sell are vintage or antique, and as such will undoubtedly have some level of minor wear, patina and “character.” Please be sure to examine all photographs for more details. This antique Carlton House Desk was manufactured by H. Mawer & Stevenson (London) with inlaid marquetry detailing Urns, Curtains and Phoenix imagery. Two storage areas sit atop the desk, some with working drawers the others are decorative (faux) and feature bent wood lift tops for stationery and pen storage. Beneath the green leather writing surface, there are two sets of drawers on either side, as well as a deep central drawer. There are also decorative tapered legs raised on original brass castors.
This piece has some interesting "documented" history as evidenced by the label inside the lefthand storage section on the desktop. Note the refence to it having been sent from the antiques house of W. & A. Deuchar in Perth, Scotland to it's one time owner, in London, near Hampstead Heath. less
