This Roy Lichtenstein rare vintage 1985 lithograph print custom framed Pop Art exhibition poster " Cow Going Abstract " 1874, is a very special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The exhibition poster print is published by The Galleria Plura Milan, printed in Italy in 1985 by Plura Edizioni in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " Grafica Pop " exhibition. It features an artwork image originally created by Lichtenstein in 1974 titled " Cow Going Abstract ".
Roy Lichtenstein ( 1923 - 1997 ) The American born Pop artist of a Jewish background, is one of the most well known and loved worldwide Contemporary artists. During the 1960's along with Andy Warhol among others, he became a leading figure in the new Pop Art Movement. His work defined the premise of Pop Art through parody. Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compositions often in a tongue in cheek manner. The artworks of Lichtenstein are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Lichtenstein's 1974 " Cow Going Abstract " triptych is the artist's homage to Pablo Picasso's 1945 " Bull Series " where Picasso over a sequence of bull images, eventually renders the bull as a single line drawing. Lichtenstein also starts with a figurative image of a bull, but goes one step further, transforming the bull into his signature planes and stripes. Through his own signature style, with nods to the Minimalism trend at the time, Lichtenstein masterfully creates an homage and his own iconic Pop Art masterpiece.
The rare out of print framed Pop Art exhibition poster measures 39 7/8" W X 14" H X 1" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern satin finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling and very light minor wear.
