The glaze is still smooth and shiny and bowls appear not to have been used very much or not at all as there are very few, very light scuffs in the well of the bowls. Generally, the bright white spots visible in some of the photos are reflections of light, not chips or damage. The bowls definitely expresses their unique character and show its antique age through slight crazing in a small areas. Small glazing imperfections can be seen on the back of the bowls along with temporary markings from the packaging (that can be easily removed) and the usual stilt marks on the front and backside. One bowl has a 3⁄8” chip on the front (image #9); another bowl has what looks like an original flaw in the surface of the pottery under the glazing (image #10) and it also has a hairline crack on the side and a crack in the center under the glazing (images #11 & 12). less

Made … more (Photos show four bowls but this listing is for an individual bowl--I have three (3) of these bowls remaining)
Made by Edward Challinor, these Ironstone bowls were created in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, England; the Challinor factory mark on the back dates it to circa 1842-1867.
The "Pelew" pattern, considered one of the top 10 most collectible Oriental Ironstone flow blue patterns, is an early oriental inspired pattern with flourishes of leaves and scrolls with clusters of fruit in a wide pattern that follows the rim. The center well shows scenes with pagoda style buildings and flowing trees. The flow is deep and dark.
The bowl measures 10 1/2" in diameter.
The backstamp reads: “IRONSTONE PELEW E. CHALLINOR” (see photos).
(The photo shows four bowls but I now have a total of three bowls remaining; I will choose one bowl for your purchase. Please let me know if you would like to purchase more than one bowl for a discounted price!) less
