(See others) … Read more This is one of several matted 1860 hand-colored engravings of mollusks that we are offering in our shop. (See others) The lithograph is a decorative arrangement of seashells that was done by Charles d'Orbigny (1806-`1876) in the "Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle". Rare to find a collection of this type. d'Orbigny was a French naturalist whose works are considered to be the finest and best natural history illustrations of the period. The illustrations speak for themselves. Notation includes the order, genus and species in both Latin and French. Excellent condition consistent with age and history. Done on heavy stock French cream-tone paper. 6 x 9.5 inches; comes matted in 16 x 20 inch custom mat ready for standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting. See less
