Jules Breton was a … more Vintage Jules Breton (1827-1906) "The Shepherd's Star" print in a lovely vintage frame in good condition. Jules Breton was a French painter who primarily captured country or rustic living/life. This print captures a peasant woman as she is returning home in the early evening with the Capella, the "shepherd's star" rising behind her. The original oil painting was painted by Breton in 1887. The original painting was acquired by the Toledo Museum of Art, through a donor, in 1922. This print was purchased in the late 1930s and on the back of this print there is a card noting that this print was purchased from The Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, OH. Minor vintage wear can be seen on the raised portion of the carved frame but nothing that detracts from the overall appeal; we would consider this normal vintage wear. There is a small area near the feet that seems to show wear. Please review the photographs to see the condition details up close.
