This piece is attributed to master New Mexican carving artist Felip Archuleta, who carved animals, watermelons and whirly gigs throughout his lifetime, and passed this art form down to his son. Felipe's works are in collections throughout the world. This melon measures 9 inches long x 6.25 inches wide. I have not been able to detect the signature, but his signatures could be quite vague and sometimes in pencil. This piece comes from the estate of woman in Texas who was a collector of fine folk art and New Mexican and Mexican artworks, carved furniture and cabinets. She actually had several of these pieces which I am keeping in my own collection. This one is being offered at a good price. See less
