Louandre's Moliere
Complete eight volume, hardcover set of “Oeuvres de Moliere (Jean-Baptiste Poquelin)” with commentary by Charles Louandre, published by C. Marpon and E. Flammarion in Paris toward the late 19th century, no date given. Poquelin (1622-1673) is widely regarded as one of the greatest playwrights in the French language and world literature.
The books are bound in leather with beautifully marbled boards and gilding to the top of the deckled edged pages. The leather bindings are strong. The volumes are just the right size to be decorative: 4.5"w x 1.25"d x 6.5"h. There is a bookplate on the inside of each front cover. Overall, the volumes are in very good condition with light to moderate foxing throughout.
