Professor Ugo Lucerni was one of the most prolific potters working in Italy at mid-century producing tiles and decorative wall panels depicting classical mythological themes and archaic hunting and battle scenes. This ceramic wall panel depicts the Greek myth of "Danae and the Shower of Gold" in a polychromed high glaze. Lucerni received strong support from architect and publisher of Domus magazine, Gio Ponti early in his career. Throughout his career Lucerni participated in numerous exhibitions, among them the Triennale di Milano, the Mostra Nationale della Ceramica di Faenza and Mostra della Ceramica di Vicenza of 1951.
