An example of studio pottery from the famed Rising Fawn Studio . Founded by artist, Charles Counts (1934-2000). Per the Vasefinder Museum: First introduced to pottery making as a student at Berea College in his native Kentucky, Counts went on to graduate studies at both Southern Illinois University and the University of Southern California. While in California he studied under the famous potter, Marguerite Wildenhain at Pond Farm. He established his first studio in Beaver Ridge, Tennessee in the late 1950's. HIs later studio was in Rising Fawn, Tennessee. Exhibited at the Nationals in 1964 and 1966.
This stoneware example features a richly organic matte exterior in rich brown. Marked incised, "Rising Fawn" to underside in what appears to be Charles Count's hand.
