19th Century French Neoclassical Bookcase ~ Bibliotheque is a masterpiece of the wood sculptor's art! The timeless architecture features a triple glass door cabinet atop a lower tier that is basically a buffet, combining storage with display in a stunning fashion. The tailored crown molding features subtle dentil over the bonnet which is divided into three sections ~ elongated pediments flanking both sides of a center panel lavished with foliate and heraldic crest carved in full relief. The panels are separated by carved corbels which are positioned above tapered & fluted columns topped with Ionic capitals and resting on bases carved with upturned acanthus plumes, each of which serves to frame the three beveled glass front doors of the upper tier. Glass shelves within take maximum advantage of ambient light. The lower tier juts out to the full depth, and begins with three drawers in a like manner as the architecture of the bonnet above, with relief carved foliates on the left and right, and a Greek coin motif on the center drawer with egg forms accentuating the three dimensionality. The drawers are separated by Baroque medallions in an interesting style departure, which appear above the tapered and carved pilasters below positioned like the columns above to frame the stunning sculpture of the three door panels below. On the left and right are ageless neoclassical designs in bold relief, but the center door ads those themes around a boldly expressed, large acanthus rosette in a circular framework. Demilune carvings appear on the flared base below, supported by bun feet. Solid cast brass key guards and bale pulls provide a special jewelry-like accent, contrasting with the natural beauty of the solid oak, painstakingly stripped by our expert in-house professionals to retain the natural patina.
