Our tall gold leaf mirror from France is no exception, despite a commanding presence of over five and a half feet. The mirror, which was hand-carved in the mid- to late-1800’s has not been rigged for hanging, indicating that it was originally utilized as a floor mirror.

True to the style of most Louis Philippe mirrors, the frame features rounded top corners and minimal carved motifs. An inner ring of beading can be seen inside of a cavetto cornice. The outer edge has a quarter round molding adorned with repeating chevrons over a foliate margent. Sections of the gold leaf have flaked, revealing red bole, which not only indicates age, but has also become a highly sought after look.
