This rare tin glazed early faience dish is hand molded and hand painted in the traditional Delft colors of blue and white. It has a floral and foliate design painted on all sides including the handles and lid. We estimate it to date to 1750. It is similar in form to a posset pot, however it lacks a spout. We have seen a similar item identified as a posset pot as well as one called a loving cup. It may have been used as a small terrine or large butter tub. It is a rare and highly coveted piece of Delftware. See less
