This is for a wonderfully old Antique Meriden Britannia 4 piece tea set in pattern #1878. The Meridan Britannia company was founded in 1852 in Meriden, Connecticut. They sold silver products, hollowware and flatware. In 1898 the company became part of International Silver Company.
Meriden Britannia Company designs are included in many museums collections as they are such an integral part of USA silver plate history along with the unique designs they produced. Their pieces are highly collectible and hard to find esp in good condition as they date as far back as 171 years! They are from what is called the Aesthetic Movement (an art movement which centered on idea that art exists for arts sake) which covered the years 1860 to 1900.
These pieces have a monogram of AFM on one side and the pieces all are marked on the bottom with makers name and pattern #. The pieces are highly decorated with male faces with beards and various hats, and then the lids have young boys on top for the final. There are faces all over on the pieces from the spouts, to handles to side raised areas.
Tea Pot: 13" x 9" x 5.5" (The little boy is missing an instrument in his hand)
Sugar Bowl: 6" x 6.5" x 4"
Pot with Lid: 10" x 8" x 5"
Creamer: 6" x 6" x 4"
Tray is from Community in the Ascot pattern: 24.5" wide x 14" deep x 1.5"
I paired these together as the colors of the silver went well together and I thought the designs also worked well.
There are no spots of missing silver plate noted with *a small area of wear on one lid, otherwise these are in amazing condition despite being so old!
Majority of my items for sale are pre-loved treasures that were most likely purchased at a local Estate Sale or a local resale shop in Arizona. I may or may not know details but do spend time researching information to provide details the best I can and to pass along fair prices.
* I take all my own pictures in my home and as such try and get all the colors as true to correct as possible.
* The items in the pictures are the exact item you will be receiving, unless I have multiple of the same item and the quality will be the exact same as the ones pictured.
* I take great care in packaging items correctly and shipping on time. I show any imperfections I can in the pictures.
* Assume items are preloved and or vintage and such can have its own idiosyncrasies due to age alone and normal wear and tear.
* Please contact me if you have specific questions.
Thank you for looking!!
