Apparently Women could buy blank trays, vases or other objects that were mostly blank and had only what he referred to as cloud painting already on the front surface. He said this particular already had the green and gold on it. The DIY painted the cranberry trim and applied the rose transfers and then it would be fired. What I love about this tray is that you can see the thumbprint of the painter in cranberry on the back of the tray. I think that’s so interesting and unusual to see and it makes this tray really unique. Most people would have tried to wipe it clean but the maker left it, which I think is pretty cool. I also love that it’s very unusual to come across one of these DIY objects from the early 29th century. Most handmade stuff like this is kept in the family and passed down to the next generations. It’s a lovely tray that can be used on a vanity or fir decorative purposes. I think it’s a bit small to use as a serving tray unless it’s a very small gathering of two or three. See less
