A mother of pearl butterfly lustre bowl with a stunning orange interior, made circa 1915 by Daisy Makeig-Jones for Wedgwood.
This butterfly lustre bowl is a gorgeous example of Daisy Makeig-Jones’s unique artistry. The ‘Butterfly’ pattern, Z4832, was one of the first ten lustreware designs issued by Wedgwood between 1914 and 1915. Its introduction corresponded with Daisy becoming a lead designer at the company in 1914. The interior of the bowl is brilliant, with Daisy’s favorite deep orange color and a mesmerizing stylized floral motif. The base has the printed Portland Vase mark in underglaze black highlighted with gilding.
Dimensions: 8 1/2 in. Dm x 5 1/4 in. H (21.3 cm Dm x 13.3 cm H)
Condition: Excellent. Some very minor wear to gilding along foot.
