Extraordinary work by Jorge Vidal, an artist based in Valladolid with a long professional career. with free, imaginative and cheerful strokes, the color is the protagonist, as well as the different abstract forms that are created. This work has been created using cardboard as a support where different papers are added to create a desired texture. This piece represents to perfection the informalist style of the author, considered, for this reason, one of the introducers of abstract art in Valladolid, together with the very well known Cuadrado Lomas and Domingo Criado among others. Signed and dated on the lower right "Jorge Vidal, 89".
Jorge Vidal (1943 - 2006)
Before boarding the merchant vessel that would take him to Germany in 1966, Jorge Vidal studied at the School of Fine Arts in Viña del Mar, where he received painting classes from Hans Soyka and engraving classes from Carlos Hermosilla, artistic fields in which he would continue to work later on. In Valparaiso, his hometown, his first works are seen in group exhibitions, but soon he takes the first opportunity to move to Europe on a youthful trip that combined personal and artistic training.
Frightened by the freezing German winter, in 1967 he arrived in Spain, first in Madrid and then in Valladolid, where he showed up looking for Cuadrado Lomas and Gaona, whose addresses he had been given by Jesús Iragüe, a Basque who had lived in the Castilian city and whom he had coincidentally met in Hamburg.
Jorge Vidal's work is related to most of the dorsal tendencies of the second half of the 20th century: from the aforementioned New Figuration to Color Field painting, passing through Informalism.
