The bowl has a … more A "Kakinoheta" type ceramic chawan (tea bowl) made in Korean during Joseon dynasty circa 16th-17th century. The bowl has a slight irregular flat shape with flare rim, similar to a "Totoya" or "Irabo" bowl, but it is distinguished by a dark-brown persimmon colored glaze thinly applied over a sandy clay with granule-texture. The glaze in the interior of the bowl was worn thin in places showing a lovely, aged patina. The exterior of the bowl shows rokurome (potter's wheel marks) as well as a couple of scratches possibly intentionally from potter's nail (known as kugibori mark). There is an old tone-on-tone kintsugi repair on the rim of the bowl as shown. The appeal of the bowl lays in its rustic and wabi-sabi quietude. The bowl comes with a fabric pouch and a later storage tomobako.
