A sophisticated circa 1900s-1920s; stunning, and timeless, ceramic accent bowl; in a faux-bois design motif, attributed to Gio Ponti, with Tromp L'oeil detailed, polychrome grisaille vignette etching of Roman Architectural ruins, on opposing sides, as if it has been attached to the wood grain, the woodgrain being the backdrop to the vignettes, as well as having some, hand painted details in some areas, with 22k gilt gold details, to perimeter top lip surround, as well as to base. This bowl is in the manner of Tiffany, as there is another listing, same exact design within Nate Berkus' storefront, which the Tiffany ink stamping is on the piece, same Ceramic Foundry markings and all. If one looks examines some of the close up images, it is stunning to notice things that at first seem like a flaw, but in fact are part of the Tromp L'eoil effect with flying minuscule birds within the scene, as well as nail motifs to the edging of the vignettes. Marked on the underside, Italy, and the numbers. S.8056 and the word, "Boiserie," meaning Faux-Bois or Pattern name. Has the look and feel of Velaruis Faux Bois ceramic pieces of the late 1870-80's and we are certain, provenance may prove it much older than we claim, but not authenticated, as some furniture and industrial designers often collaborated with companies known for their tableware/server imports of porcelain, ceramic or silver, or sterling ware. Of Italian Provenance region. From a Miami Beach, Florida Estate.
