- This fabulous antique pair of 2 Japanese tea cups and saucers are created in gorgeous hand wrought 950 sterling silver … more This fabulous antique pair of 2 Japanese tea cups and saucers are created in gorgeous hand wrought 950 sterling silver with designs of the Japanese maple leaf and rising sun. Japanese red maple leaves [momiji] represent abundant blessings, peace, beauty, patience, survival and arrival of autumn [Koyo]. The rising sun refers to Japan's geographic location relative to China's and the fact that the sun never sets in the East [Asahi]. The symbol of the rising sun has been used since Imperial times. There is also a repousse floral design surrounding the maple leaves and rising sun, as well as a "D shaped handle. These beautiful cups and saucers are hand wrought. There are no hallmarks. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Cups: Diameter=2-5/8 inches, Height from top to bottom=1-1/2 inches. Saucers diameter=4-1/2 inches, Depth=3/4 inches. This beautiful pair of tea cups and saucers have been well cared for, gently used and are in excellent condition, free from dents or repairs. There is some very slight scratches on the saucer rims that can only be seen with magnification.
