This vintage item has been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina and is ready to use.
This Mid-century magazine rack is a good example of a piece described as `Hollywood Regency`. The 18th Century French engravings on the sides portray the Grand Tour of the Regency period. With its Modernist design & Neoclassical scrolling patterns make this design light & elegant. It has of the many features of Maison Bagues, the attributed designer & manufacturer.
This storage is practical while keeping a sense of style. It would make a smart finishing detail to a range of interiors such as Traditional, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Shabby Chic, or Contemporary.
Structurally it is made of solid brass, several parts bolted together. The handle & sides have a scrolling pattern finished with a decorative finial. At the bottom there are slender cabriole feet.
On the inside compartment at the bottom there is a curved solid polished brass surface where the magazines stand. The internal sides are covered with fabric in a pale red tone.
The 2 lateral side panels are fitted at each side in an angle, and suspended in decorative brass brackets. The external sides are fitted with two antique etchings on celluloid. The scenes are:
"View of the village of Mola located on the seaside", general view of the port and the city of Syracuse, drawn by Des Prez, engraved by H Guttemberg.
"Second view of the surroundings of the town of Castro Giovanni", drawn by Claude Louis Chatelet, engraved by Du Parc ( Emmanuel Jean Nepomucène de Ghendt).
Views taken from "The Voyage Pittoresque ou description des Royaume de Naples et de Sicilie" by Richard de Saint-Non (1727-1791), circa 1786.
Each scene is surrounded by a polished solid brass trim.
To close the magazine rack, pull up the handle.
To open, hold & push outwards the 4 round decorative brass bolts.
