An exquisite Early 20th Century Gold Gilt Églomisé Decoupage Glass Decorator Table Lamp detailed with hand gilt reverse glass églomisé … Read more An exquisite Early 20th Century Gold Gilt Églomisé Decoupage Glass Decorator Table Lamp detailed with hand gilt reverse glass églomisé decoupaged globe and column form, black and white floral etchings and gold gilt on the interior set on top of a circular stepped base with which the original antiqued hardware has been maintained.

The lamp has a two-socket cluster each accommodating a 75 watt bulb with beaded-ball chain pulls on each socket accentuated with a delicate bell end. It is fitted with a riser on the central tube that elevates the lampshade an additional 6 inches. Circa 1930s. Acquired from a Palm Beach Estate.

Verre églomisé, ("Glomyized glass"), is a French term referring to the process of applying both a design and gilding onto the rear face of glass to produce a mirror finish. The glass is engraved on the back and covered by unfired painting and / or, usually, gold or silver leaf. The method owes its name to Jean-Baptiste Glomy (d. 1786), an 18th-century French decorator art-dealer and picture framer who used the process in glass mounts. The technique derives from late antiquity and was transmitted by Early Christian tradition.
