One box has an interior height of 8 5/8”, one is 10 1/4”, and two are 12 1/4” each. All are 34” in width. They are all made of oak construction. Although they are unmarked three of them appear to have been made by the Macey furniture company as evidenced by the wavey markings on some of the steel bands joining the sides and the rack and pinion mechanisms used in the glass front doors. The only exception is the 8 5/8” box which has a scissors mechanism for the glass door which was used by the Globe/Wernicke company. So most probably at some time in its life a three stack Macey bookcase was married to a Globe/Wernicke box and a four stack bookcase was created. This was a common practice back in the 1920’s and 30’s. The two companies used similar measurements for their boxes and later merged into a single company. These bookcases are perfect today for storing collectibles or any other thing you want to display but keep protected from dust. They fit well into decor ranging from Art & Crafts to mid century modern and contemporary furniture. All of the glass panes have a slightly wavey look when viewed from the side indicating that they are most likely original glass. As with any furniture of this age they show signs of wear including a few areas where old paint has gotten into the pieces.
