Stunning Antique Royal Satsuma Hand-Painted Gold Gilt Moriage Porcelain Large Vase is beautifully detailed with traditional Asian Nature motifs. The intricate scene depicts colorful birds sitting amongst flowers under a Bonsai tree and the mountain range can be seen in the background. The mouth of the vase features the original crackle finish and is not a defect or damage.
The gold trim and handles on each shoulder are striking. Signed in both English and Japanese, this piece dates back to the Early 20th Century.
Moriage is a common name on slip or colored clay string decoration, mostly on Japanese porcelain, in look not unlike 'cake frosting' in which a diluted clay has been used to give the piece a three dimensional appearance. A painstaking technique that involved the building up of enamel which produces a multi dimensional effect.
This breathtaking, highly collectible Antique must be seen to truly take in all of it's beauty and splendor.
The base measures 6" in width, and the overall diameter is approximately 26" at the widest point, from handle to handle is approximately 10" and the mouth measures 6" in diameter.
There is age appropriate wear to the bottom, otherwise it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or defects. less
