Delightful Mid 20th Century goldfish bowl planter - a very finely hand painted and richly enamelled ceramic planter in gentle pastel shades.
There are two panels depicting traditional scenes of Chinese men and ladies in Chinese dress in their garden pavilion area. The round body is decorated with auspicious flowers, butterflies, moths, peaches, pomegranates, and other decorative objects all on a gold/gilt background. The background being gold indicates that this is a superior planter in terms of finish and quality of the painting.
The two main panels are attractively decorated with a border of pink and light blue lucky coin shapes. The inside area is decorated with five orange goldfish swimming amongst green pond weeds.
Not only a beautiful piece but a useful size that can be either used as a jardiniere or just as a decorative ornament. The photographs do not do it justice.
