18th century La Bourbeuse de Seve Hand Colored Tortoise Turtle Antique Engraving by Chevillet. Juste Chevillet was a French engraver. Jacques De Sève was commissioned by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon to provide the illustrations for his seminal Histoire Naturelle, for which we believe this engraving was
produced (mid to late 1700s). It has a sleeve that we believe once contained a certificate of authenticity but sadly it is missing. Overall framed measurements are 18” wide x 20” tall. The bookplate itself measures 6.25” x 8.5” within the matte. The ornate gilded frame is very complimentary to the piece. Please ask any and all questions prior to offer or purchase. less
