Jean Gauthier (EJG)
A stunning French 1930-1935 art deco hanging fixture by Hettier & Vincent in nickel plated bronze or solid brass holding a large bowl in clear frosted moulded-pressed glass made by the Etablissements Jean Gauthier (E.J.G.). This rather rare and beautiful model is never signed.
Hettier & Vincent was a large well-known French lighting company producing high quality items. Wholesaler and retailer with its shop at the prestigious and beautiful Place de Vosges in Paris. In the old Hettier et Vincent product catalogs we can see they used this model canopy for many of its chandeliers and pendants. Note the clever way the chains are made allowing the electrical wire to run as it were inside the construction of the chain. Hettier et Vincent patented these chains in 1928.
The pendant is in very good condition. Some minuscule un disturbing chips on the rim of the shade. I have re-nickeled and patinated the mount. The lamp has a total height of 67 cm (26-3/8") and the bowl is 40 cm (15-3/4 inches) in diameter. I can shorten the fixture on request. The lamp is rewired and holds three American candelabra base sockets.
