DAUM Lorrain - Pierre d'Avesn

A rare French 1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze holding a bowl by Lorrain verrerie de belle étoile. A branch of the famous Daum glass factories for which Antonin and Auguste Daum asked Pierre d'Avesn to be its artistic director.
The pendant on offer holds a rare bowl with the Lorrain daisy decoration. This model bowl is unsigned yet represented in the old Lorrain product catalog.
The pendant is in excellent condition. I have re-nickeled and patinated the mount. Note the nice matching canopy. The fixture is rewired with an American standard socket. The pendant has a drop of 43,5 cm (17,13") and a diameter of 35 cm (13,78").
On Lorrain: In 1926 the famous Daum glass manufacturers opened a new plant in the village of Croismare near Luneville. A year later it started a production of pressed glassware. The new company 'Les Verreries d'Art Lorrain" merged with the one Daum already owned in this village "Les verreries de belle étoile". For these plants the Daum company employed the well-known designer Pierre d'Avesn , who till that time worked for René Lalique, as its artistic director. d'Avesn stayed in office till the Lorrain branche closed down in 1934. Some prestigious Lorrain models were signed P.d'Avesn like the bowl of this lamp. After the bankruptcy of Lorrain d'Avesn became the director of the Hanots/Verlys glass manufactory of the Holophane company.
