A deep red vessel with fitted cover. The surface of the vessel and lid are provided with a geometric relief pattern that is further highlighted with a darker glaze to enhance the illusion of depth. The inside of the vessel is fully glazed. Designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramiche, Montelupo Italy. The bottom of the vessel has two paper labels: “Raymor MODERN in the TRADITION of GOOD TASTE - 1920 BIT” and “MADE IN ITALY 1628.” Photos do not do justice to the beauty of this piece.
ALDO LONDI (1911-2003) was one of Italy's most noted master ceramicists who spent most of his long and successful career creating exceptional works of great art and craft for the Italian ceramic’s manufacturer Bitossi Ceramiche.
Raymor was the brand name of an import company, based in the U.S. from 1941 until 1980 and founded by entrepreneur Irving Richards. Raymor imported large amounts of Italian glass and pottery, mainly from factories in and around Florence and Murano. These included Bitossi ceramics designed by Aldo Londi, Bagni ceramics designed by Alvino Bagni, ceramics by Mancioli and Ceramica Pozzi, and glass from factories around Empoli.
This piece has been attributed based on archival documentation, such as vintage catalogs, designer records, or other literature sources to Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramiche. The paper Raymor label with the letters “BIT” indicate that the art pottery vessel was imported from Bitossi Ceramiche.
This wonderful abstract art pottery lidded vessel is in excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing.
This Art Pottery is the PERFECT addition to your Mid-Century Modern Art Pottery collection.
