Rare and highly desirable polychrome figural grouping by world-renowned, Italian sculptor and ceramicist, Luigi Fabris, c. 1940's. Called "L'eroica ," (The Hero) This hand-painted piece blends traditional Capodimonte craftsmanship with Dresden lace techniques. Fabris' meticulous attention to detail and artistic prowess are exceptional. Depicting an 18th Century Venetian bourgeoisie sitting room, this figural group features two finely dressed women in elaborate gowns. The elegant living room has been invaded by a small mouse. The expressions that Fabris captured on the women's faces is incredibly lifelike. The frightened women begin to scream and climb onto the settee to protect themselves from this "dangerous" enemy! Fortunately, a gallant gentleman with a rapier manages to defeat the mouse This hand-painted piece is composed of semi-gloss porcelain. Fabris employed an underglaze technique, which allows the vibrant chromatics on this piece to be incredibly striking and unscathed by the passage of time. From the carpet on the floor to the luxurious settee, Fabris presents even the smallest details with impressive focus and dimension. This rare porcelain masterpiece is free of any lace losses and the gentleman's rapier is original and intact. Signed Fabris underside with the classic red anchor mark.
