The chair first appeared between the 8th and 6th century BC and its design, the curved back rest and four gracefully curved tapered legs, was perfected during the Golden Age of Athens. These chairs were mostly used by women; in fact, Homer mentioned it in his “Iliad” saying, “Goddesses liked the klismos.” Its popularity spread to the Roman Empire after the Fall of the Roman Empire its popularity declined until the 18th century where its design was copied all over Europe. Many famous furniture designers from England, Europe, Russia and America copied its design and created their own modern versions of the ancient chair. The graceful klismos chair has remained popular and blends well with almost every interior style and is considered to be one of the most influential designs in the history of furniture.
