About the artist:
Lila Moore Keen (1903-1963) loved the flowers of her native Georgia. With an unequaled talent for painting them, she became nationally renowned for her paintings of camellias, magnolias, and other flowers of the South. She began her artistic career at the age of twelve, “borrowing” her sister’s set of paints to teach herself to paint. Ultimately, she dedicated her life to preserving the beauty of southern flowers on her canvases, winning critical acclaim by art critics and the public alike. Particularly fond of camellias, she toured many gardens in order to select and immortalize perfect examples of each variety, as these prints attest. She was honored nationwide for her paintings, and her works were exhibited at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C biannually. Her works continue to be highly prized throughout the world. less
