Lovely hand painted art vase made in Israel by LAPID.
The white glaze of the vase is decorated with an abstract geometric pattern of vertical and horizontal terracotta lines punctuated with stippled gray biomorphic and oblong shapes. The geometric pattern varies both in line and texture as it weaves around the white vase to create an ever-changing composition. The terracotta lines appear to be formed by the absence of the white glaze since the lines are recessed into the surface of the vase. The texture created by this effect adds a layer of visual interest. The inside of the vase is fully glazed in black.
Bottom of the vase is marked ”LAPID ISRAEL D” and Handpainted by DAN.
Lapid Pottery was located in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Israel and was established in 1944 and continued to produce pottery until 1990. In 1949, the factory changed its original goal of making tiles and sanitary wares - to producing Art Pottery which was inspired by Scandinavian design. The designers were primarily responsible for the forms and shapes, and the head decorator the designs. A group of 7-8 decorators were responsible for hand painting the designs onto the art pottery, making for subtle variations between the same base designs, and each piece unique. The multitude of shapes and decorations makes each piece unique.
