This lantern was crafted in Turkey or Morocco in the late 1800s to early 1900s. These were painstakingly hand-cut from solid brass and put on display in mosques, often for use as incense holders. If you look closely, you can see some dark residue that may have come from incense smoke or from later use as a lantern. When lit from inside, the globe casts a gorgeous light pattern against the wall; it is fun to try it out in different spaces to see how it interacts with the room. With it’s warm, aged brass tones it also looks very beautiful in the daylight, especially at an angle where you can see sunlight peaking through the many holes. This piece is in exceptionally good condition and ready for display over your dinner table, porch, gazebo, etc. The listed height of 21" denotes the overall hanging height of the lantern, including hook and chain.
