A nice pair of authentic 1925-1930 French art deco wall sconces in nickel plated solid brass or bronze holding two beautiful panels in frosted molded-pressed glass. The shades were acid frosted and then polished by hand to create glossy highlights. The shades were produced by Etablissement Jean Gauthier. This model is never signed. The sconces are 11,14 inches high 9,25" wide and 4,53" deep.
Both are in very good condition. Some small chips on the rim where the shade fit in the mountings. I have re-nickeled and patinated the fixtures. The wall lights come rewired with American candelabra base sockets.

Jean Gauthier had his workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in molded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J. Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
