In the late 1800s and early 1900s companies often issued collector cards as a way of getting consumers to buy … more In the late 1800s and early 1900s companies often issued collector cards as a way of getting consumers to buy more product - much like hockey or baseball cards in the 20th century. Cigarette companies, sewing machine companies, and in this case, a company that made soup bouillon cubes (Liebig) found new and novel subjects - like faraway destinations (in this case, Vienna!) to entice consumers to buy more. The seller found these in Milan and had them professionally (and we think beautifully!) matted and framed. Very rare, highly collectable and at prices below their gallery price s(sssh - don't tell).

The card size measures 4.25" x 3", while the framed size measures 11" x 9.5". less
