Superb pair of neo-Gothic ceremonial armchairs in solid walnut, completely aerogoomed their confernts a very aerial appearance although their structure remains very framed by the straight lines of the feet, the seat and the backrest.
They both have a very worked file revealing in their center a different badge in the coat of arms of two distinct cities.
The first seems to be "the Berlin bear" and the second remains to be determined
Both are sublimated by an ornamentation of lush vegetation of acanthus and fruit leaves.
The supports of accompaniers represent a couple of medieval characters in traditional clothes.
The legs are connected in the middle by an H space.
Era: XIXth
Dimensions: Height: 97cm x Width: 60cm

Born around 1830 in France, the neo-Gothic style came from the romantic movement of the early 19th century.
The Middle Ages, long considered as a dark period whose artistic creation seemed barbaric and primary, had a pronounced craze for a part of the 19th century.
In France, the release of Victor Hugo's book "Notre-Dame de Paris" then the creation of a new Historic Monuments Commission in 1837 will confirm the new interest in Gothic thanks, among others, to Violet the Duke and prosperous Merimée.
Gothic inspiration furniture was very successful with the Parisian intellectual bourgeoisie. less
