A Victorian calling card receiver in the shape of a rectangular tray with an embossed design of the Yin Yang symbol. The repeating design gives it an almost Escher-esque quality.
The stamped tray has an undulating edge and a flat base. A mark in the corner of the base reads MERIDEN SILVER PLATE CO. QUADRUPLE PLATE within a circle with a lion in the center. There is also a production number of 1721.
MEASUREMENTS
6” (2.4 cm) long x 5” (12.7 cm) wide x ½” (1.3 cm) tall. Weighs 6.5 oz (185 g)
CONDITION
There are no cracks, dents, or breaks. The bottom has many surface scratches where the tray rubbed on the tabletops. Although much of the silver has worn off, there does remain some shine.
A fun receiver that could be used to put your keys on by the door. I love the intricate repeating design. less
